Read More About CEREC Same Day Crowns

Our Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramic (CEREC®) system has transformed dental restorations with crowns in a day. In the past, if you required a crown, inlay, onlay, or veneers, you would have multiple appointments with impressions, fittings, and much waiting time until the completion of your cosmetic service. With CEREC, we can create these ceramic dental restorations and have your procedure completed in only a couple of hours at our own dental office. This allows us to complete many of our cosmetic dentistry services in a single visit, making it the perfect solution for those pesky dental emergencies!

The CEREC system is made up of computer-assisted design (CAD) tools and a computer-assisted milling machine (CAM) that creates custom ceramic restorations; the CEREC System is sometimes called a CAD-CAM system. With CEREC we can make almost any ceramic restoration to order, meaning Dr. Krell can place it immediately. This is of great benefit to nervous patients, those in a hurry, or patients experiencing a dental emergency; it can also reduce the cost of treatment, as each procedure is completed in office and does not need to be sent out.

The process of creating a CEREC restoration is a simple one. There are no sticky, uncomfortable, traditional impressions; after preparing the tooth for the new restoration, we take a 3D digital imaging impression using our HD acquisition unit. Once the impression is sent to the computer, Dr. Krell chooses a ceramic block that is perfectly matched to your tooth color before artfully crafting your new smile. His design plan is then sent to the CEREC milling system, where the computer crafts the new restoration from the doctor's design. Within 15 minutes, the crown, onlay, overlay, or porcelain veneer is complete. Dr. Krell polishes the new restoration and places it dry to ensure it fits correctly before fixing it to the tooth with dental cement.

The new restoration is made of compressed porcelain, rather than laboratory-layered porcelain. This enhances strength and durability. The quality of the finished product is the same as the laboratory-generated restoration, but a great deal of time and money is saved by creating it in our own dental office.

How can CEREC® benefit me?

CEREC allows for Houston crowns in a day, veneers, or other types of restorations, benefitting almost anyone needing a ceramic dental restoration. Exceptions include patients who have a prior history of breaking ceramic devices or those with a deep bite. CEREC restorations are proven to last for over five years, but recent research indicates that most CEREC-created restorations last for more than ten years.

Here are some of the advantages associated with our CEREC system:

  • Same day crowns.
  • No temporary restorations.
  • High-quality ceramic products.
  • Minimal invasiveness.
  • Less injections and discomfort.
  • Fewer dental visits.
  • Cost effectiveness.
  • More natural tooth is saved.
  • Long lasting restorations.
  • Biocompatible solutions.
