Dental Implants in Houston, TX
Dental implants are an excellent solution to replace missing teeth. Our dental implants are artificial roots, typically made of titanium, that are placed into the upper or lower jawbone. The teeth we attach to implants are very natural looking and often enhance or restore a person's smile. Implants are very strong, stable, and durable and will last for many years. On occasion, they may have to be re-tightened or replaced due to normal wear.
This type of restoration is secure and is also the preferred alternative to removable dentures. For those looking for a fixed solution to dentures or are looking to replace multiple teeth, Dr. William Krell offers implant-supported dentures. In the average full arch replacement case, Dr. Krell will place four implants into the jawbone and attach a full arch restoration; this type of denture is very sturdy and stable due to the integration of the implants into the jawbone.
Reasons for dental implants:
Replace one or more missing teeth without affecting adjacent teeth.
Resolve joint pain or bite problems caused by teeth shifting into missing tooth space.
Restore a patient’s confident smile.
Restore chewing, speech, and digestion.
Restore or enhance facial tissues.
Support a bridge or denture, making them more secure and comfortable.
What does the process of getting our Houston dental implants involve?
The process of getting implants requires a number of visits to our office over the span of several months.
On the initial visit, Dr. Krell will take impressions to create a preoperative physical model of your jaw and teeth. He will also take a 3D scan to evaluate bone density and spacing and then plan the implant placement in the 3D CT scan application. This 3D scan is sent out and a surgical guide is made for precise implant placement. Once the surgical guide is returned, Dr. Krell can place the implant. This guide not only directs the dentist on where to place the implant, but also guides the surgical tools. This high-tech method allows for extremely accurate placement of the implant.
The area where the implant will be placed is numbed before insertion. The implant process does not require any form of sedation; however, Dr. Krell offers a variety of sedation dentistry methods to relax nervous patients. If you suffer from dental anxiety, you can opt for either oral conscious sedation or nitrous oxide during the procedure.
Following the placement of the implant, Dr. Krell may immediately place a temporary restoration on the implant post. If Dr. Krell believes a temporary will strain the newly placed implant, he can create a temporary bridge restoration that will rest on the adjoining teeth. This temporary will protect the implant during healing as well as cosmetically conceal the titanium post, allowing the patient to smile with confidence.
Once the implant integrates completely with the jawbone (we allow two to six months), the patient will come back to take digital 3D impressions to create the permanent restoration. These restorations are securely attached to the implant, providing excellent stability and comfort to the patient. They look, function, and feel like natural teeth.
We will provide care instructions when treatment is complete. Proper oral hygiene, eating habits, and regular dental visits will aid in the life of the new implant.
